Financial Services
Licensed banks and forex bureaux provide currency exchange services across Zambia.
Banks usually operate 09:00–15:30 on weekdays and 09:00–11:00 on Saturdays.
They are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Value-Added Tax (VAT)
Zambia charges a 16% VAT on goods and services.
Foreign visitors can reclaim VAT on purchases exceeding K500 at major international airports.
Required: original tax invoices and passport for the refund.
Tipping for Services
While Zambia has no legal requirement for tipping, it is customary to leave a tip of at least 10% of your bill at restaurants and bars.
For car guards at free parking, tipping is optional but appreciated if they have looked after your car for more than 30 minutes.
